Article Writing and Article Marketing are the left hand and right hand of earning income from a home-based business using Internet marketing. You should know, however, there are two separate and distinct avenues for your writing talent.

Search Engine Optimized Website Articles

Let's assume you are not a novice to Internet marketing or operating a home-based business. You have probably read that you should write for your site visitors first and the search engines second. Think about that for a moment.

If you don't write for the search engines, who will be visiting your site to read the article? Let's look at a fact of life here. Organic search engine rankings are the top prize of online marketing. A high organic ranking is controlled by a number of factors, but the first is a search engine optimized web page.

Keys to Writing a Search Engine Optimized Article

  • Find the most effective keywords for your niche
  • Your page title should contain one or two of the most effective keyword phrases but not exceed 50 - 60 characters. The title tag for this page is <title>Article Writing and Article Marketing for Profit</title>
  • Your meta description tag, while not used by all search engines, is still important. Some engines will use it for the page description in your organic listing. So, put your keyword phrases there.
  • Your article title should match your page title as much as possible. As you'll see, for this page they are an exact match. Your article title should be a <heading> tag.
  • Use named anchors on your page. For instance, the title for this section, Search Engine Optimized Website Articles, contains an anchor tag. The first paragraph that lists the two distinct avenues for your writing talent contains hyperlinks to those named anchors.
  • Use bold print to highlight and emphasize the most important keywords on your page, but don't overdo it - like I'm doing on this page.
  • Use keyword phrase hyperlinks to additional information about this same subject
  • Use original content. Search engines like original content; they don't like duplicate content. Today, it's very easy to get too much duplicate content because of PLR and Article Marketing. Article marketing is not as much of a problem as PLR.

Article Directory Marketing

Writing for Article Directories like Ezine Articles, and any of a dozen more, still requires that your article focus on effective search engine phrases. One of your goals is to persuade other webmasters to put your article on their website.

Do you really think a webmaster wants a poorly written article that is not written for search engines? What good would it do them to post such an article. The search engines will not give them credit for quality content. They are required to use your resource box which will contain an outgoing link to you.

You must earn that valuable link to your website.
