When is the Best Time to ...

The perfect time to begin a home-based business is when you are ready to make a change in your financial lifestyle.

Many years ago Beth and I were having a conversation with another couple. They asked when we planned to have children. My answer was short and sweet: as soon as we were more financially stable.

The guy looked at me and said, "Oh, then you're not planning to have any children."

His wife smiled and offered her advice, "Larry, you will never believe you are financially able to have children. You just do it and work to make it turn out okay."

We are now the proud parents of two college graduates, and we never did reach that point of being "financially stable enough" while they were at home. It began with baby formula and diapers, progressed into day care expenses, then into children's sports programs and taekwondo lessons. Designer jeans were a must!

First teen automobile...first teenage automobile insurance...first speeding ticket...first automobile accident. Emergency splenectomy folowing a pick-up football game.

You just do it and make it work out right.

Perfect timing really doesn't exist. Now, you may be in the right place at the right time purely by accident, but not because of any super-cerebral planning on your part.

Statistics consistently point to the Internet and online marketing as the right place to be. The right time is purely up to you.

Let me ask you a question: how did you come to be with your significant other? If you're like Beth and me, it was one of those "right place, right time" things.

I was dating Beth's cousin. One night as "cousin" prepared to go onstage at the County Fair Queen Contest, she told Beth to keep an eye on me. And she never told Beth to stop. Thank goodness!

Plan to be unprepared. Plan to learn. Plan to work. Remember Kevin Costner's movie, Field of Dreams? Do you remember the overriding guidance thoughout the movie? Build it and they will come.

Don't gloss over the first part: Build It. In other words, make it work!

You can earn money from home. Thousands of people have proven it, and over half a million more people begin every year. Most of them will fail. They fail because they leave out the most important part of the process: building it.

The work-at-home industry is big, but most people fail to recognize the first word, WORK. We are talking about earning money. To earn something... anything...you must put in effort. Many people fail because they think of working from home like buying a lottery ticket.

  • Choose a business you can work from home.
  • Align yourself with a mentor who can provide guidance and direction for you.
  • Gather as much information as you can.
  • Set aside a period of time each day for learning.
    1. Learn more about your industry niche.
    2. Learn more about marketing your business.
    3. If necessary, learn more about effective writing.
    4. Learn more about self-motivation.
    5. Learn - Become an information sponge.
  • Plan milestone rewards.
    1. Reward your decision to begin! Beth and I will go to a fancy restaurant, order wine, appetizer, soup, entree, dessert and an after dinner coffee... and imagine ourselves being able to do that every day of our life -- if we want to do so!
    2. Reward your first income derived from your home business.
    3. Reward yourself when you achieve a certain revenue level.
    4. Set milestones for yourself and your business AND reward yourself when you achieve them.
  • Plan Reward-Motivation. Reward motivation serves two purposes. Rewarding yourself for hard work and motivating yourself to more hard work. Beth and I spend 15 wonderful days with our feet in the sand in the French West Indies - every year.
