Beth and I have been one of those Neilsen families you've heard about, and we've had a relationship with Neilsen for a long time. We began by rating television shows and have since moved into other areas with them.
But Neilsen is just one company gathering information for other companies. Corporate America is competitive, and companies want to know how they can improve. They want to know what market segment they appeal to the most - and how to appeal to other segments.
Have you purchased something online from Home Depot or any other online merchant? Then you probably were asked to complete a survey about your shopping experience. That was a simple customer survey telling the company about a current customer.
Companies want to know about non-customers as well. So they commission other types of surveys, and they pay big market research bucks to learn how they can broaden their appeal.
Could you be one of those survey participants? Click here for extensive information about online surveys.
Typists Needed
Down South we have a phrase to describe something that is large in number. 'There's more of 'em than Carter has liver pills.' Well, there are about that many ways to earn income typing from home.
- Consultants hire typists to put the finishing touch on projects they complete.
- Advertisers hire copywriters.
- Writers hire typists.
- No, I'm not going to list everyone that needs typists. Let's just suffice it to say that there are a lot of opportunities. One of my first contract jobs was document creation for attorneys: wills, living trusts, real estate transfers (deeds), etc.

Data Entry Workers Needed
If you have read some of the Home Business Articles, you know that I left my position with Electronic Data Systems to begin working from home. While at EDS I supervised Claims Processing for a huge insurance program. Just about everything we did involved data entry.
Because we were dealing with personal medical information, our contract workers were required to work in our office. But there are tons of data entry positions that allow you to work from home.
For instance, two websites I created in 2006 for a huge corporation was nothing but tables of data - lots and lots of data. Did I gather the data? No. Did I enter the data into spreadsheets? No. Contract workers were used to do that. I took their data entry information and used it when creating the websites.
